Is it me, or is the majority of society living a “superficial” life?
Let me expound upon that statement by first explaining what superficial means.
Superficial:
- concerned with or comprehending only what is on the surface or obvious:
- shallow; not profound or thorough:
- apparent rather than real.
Have you ever only been “concerned with the obvious”? For me, that could be… Ok, the floor is dirty, so I must clean it. My son has a dirty diaper, so I must change it. The dog is waiting at the back door, so I must let him out.
You know, the everyday mundane tasks that are in our face obvious that we must take care of. These things are all good, but if we are not living intentionally, we can let days go by and not rise above the superficial to the supernatural. And, I believe God is asking us to stretch beyond the superficial.
He does not want us to live a shallow life, but rather a profound life. If for no other reason, then to bring Him glory.
So, how do we move beyond the superficial into the supernatural and what does that look like?
Let’s start by looking at the definition of..
Supernatural:
- of, pertaining to, characteristic of, or attributed to God
- direct influence or action of a deity on earthly affairs; Miraculous
Very simply, God wants us to make room for Him in our everyday lives. He wants us to live in the “miraculous”. He doesn’t want us to get stuck in the day to day frustrations that come with living on Earth. He wants to have a direct influence in our lives. He wants to show the world through us that He IS real. He IS amazing. And, a life centered in Him is blessed beyond measure. It is a life lived with Grace. A life empowered by God.
So, what might a day look like that is “Miraculous”?
Perhaps, it starts with spending some quiet time with God in the morning, by reading His word, talking to Him… and then listening. Listening for your divine instructions for the day. Maybe He has a person that He wants you to call and encourage. Or He could have a certain place He wants you to go, so that you can minister a blessing to someone in need.
But, how would you know any of that?
Only by listening. This, my friend, takes time. And, it’s not always easy. But, a Supernatural life does not come by accident. It comes by spending time with the Miracle Maker and getting to know His voice.
So many people, myself included, have asked… “How to I hear God’s voice?”
And, a friend of mine gave a very impactful illustration the other day. She explained how she “knew” her husband’s voice. It didn’t matter where they were, if her husband was nearby, she would know he was there, if only by his whistle.
Now, how does she “know” her husband’s voice so well? Because she spends time with him. They have a relationship.
It is that simple with God. If we have a relationship with Him and we spend time with Him, we will start to recognize His voice.
Powerful thought, isn’t it? 😉
And, once we recognize His voice, we can really tune in to all that He has in store for us. He will guide us on how to best parent our children. He will lead us to people or resources to help us effectively train them up in the way to go.
He will inspire us with profitable business ventures and put the right people in our path to help us bring it together.
He will supernaturally provide the means to attain equipment that is needed to perform certain jobs.
He will bless us with money that we did not work for.
He will plant book ideas into our heart and then show us how to bring it into fruition.
The list goes on an on. There is no limit to the Supernatural blessings from God. However, it is up to us to recognize them. But, we will not recognize them if we don’t first have faith for them. We must believe God’s word is true. We must believe that when the Bible says God wants to bless us, that He really means it!
