[pinit]I have always been an avid reader. I can still remember going to the Library as a kid and checking out a dozen books at a time. This was probably one of my favorite activities. And, as I got older, I remember kids who liked the library were called nerds. This however never bothered me, as I just loved reading so much and I thought the library was cool! Thankfully the love for learning continued into adulthood. But, instead of reading children’s books, I transitioned into self-help books. One thing I always knew was that I had A LOT of work to do in the self-improvement arena. Growing up in a less than perfect (to put it mildly) home, I entered the world with some issues. So, I have always sought out people who seemed to “have it all together”. And, I would glean from their experiences. And, to think that some of the more successful people even wrote about their experiences and I could learn from them has always been so exciting for me! That being said, I have read a ton of books, which have helped shape me into the person I am. Which, by the way, I still am not perfect, but thank God, I am waaaay better than I used to be!
Here are just a few of the books that have changed my life:
The 5 Love Languages– This is a book that every couple needs to read! I am convinced that many a marriages could have been saved if people understood this information! It explains how people give and receive love differently. Whether it be through Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, Quality Time, Acts of Service or Gifts. And, the way one usually “shows” love is the same way they like to “receive” love. However, the challenge comes when the person they are “giving” love to has a different “Love Language”. And, each person may be trying really hard to love the other person, but they both end up with empty “Love Tanks”. This can lead to arguments, misunderstandings and feelings of neglect. But, once you understand how to “show” love to your partner in their “Love Language”, needs get met and love is renewed!
The Magic of Thinking Big– Do you know any small thinkers? You know, people who have no really big goals or aspirations in life? I think we all do. The challenge is that we can never move beyond our self- limiting thoughts. This book will teach you to do exactly what the title says, THINK BIG!
Think and Grow Rich– This is a timeless classic and most definitely the deepest book I have ever read! You could read this book 10 times and still get something new from it every single time. It is chock full of success principles taught by some of the greatest men in history. The author was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie, (The leader in the steel industry and one of the wealthiest and most successful men of our time.) to interview 500 of the most successful people to learn how they became successful. So, Napoleon Hill (the author) accepted the challenge and spent 20 YEARS of his life compiling this information to create what we now know as Think and Grow Rich.
The next 3 books are written by the same author, Robert Kiyosaki. He is a multi-millionaire investor, business owner and educator. He has been the leader in business education books for years. And, the information he presents is pretty eye opening and will definitely shift your paradigm a bit!
Rich Dad Poor Dad– Have you ever heard the saying, “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer”? Well it’s pretty much true. Why is that? Because they THINK differently. And, until you learn to THINK like a rich person, you can never become a rich person. (Hence the book I recommended previously. ;)) As long as you have a poverty mindset, you unfortunately are not going to be able to break out of that stigma. So, what Robert does in this book is compares the lifestyles of both of his dads. One was his biological dad (Poor Dad) and the other was his friend’s dad (Rich Dad), who ended up being his mentor in life. Although both were amazing men, they lived dramatically different lives because of the way they thought, which therefore affected the decisions they made and the outcomes they got.
Cash Flow Quadrant– Did you know there is more than one way to make money? There are actually 4.. You can be an employee, self-employed, Big business owner, or Investor. In this book, Robert goes into great detail to describe the different quadrants and the different results that they produce. He goes on to challenge the old mantra… “Go to school, get good grades and get a safe secure job”. He explains that although this used to be a recipe for success in our society, that this is a way of the past. We are in a different era. The economy has changed. Business has changed. And, the thought of working for the same company for 30 years and retiring comfortably with a pension and social security is HISTORY. But, the good news is that we are now in the era of the entrepreneur, which he talks about in my next book recommendation.
The Business of the 21st Century– This book is a recommended 1st Read for anyone considering going into business for themselves. Robert touches on principles from the first two books above and then goes into great detail about why “Network Marketing” is the business of today and the future. He explains that the only way to take charge of your future is by taking charge of your finances, by owning your own business. He goes onto explain how and why “Network Marketing” removes the majority of the hindrances of starting your own business. This book is very empowering and leaves you feeling equipped with a game plan.
To be continued!! 😉
