Give Yourself Permission
Do you ever feel like you are still a child? That you still have someone to answer to or that you are not allowed to just make your own decisions without worrying what someone, anyone else will think? Well, you aren’t alone!! Don’t get me wrong, as I slide into my mid thirties there are things I really enjoy about still feeling young…I can still keep in step with my rambunctious, full of life kids, I can still pass for a high schooler when I am dressed super casual and I still don’t have any wrinkles (however, gray hair- if you look closely at my roots- is another story). But, why is it that I still have this feeling that I do not have permission to do any number of things?!?! Relax on the couch with a good book for an afternoon, treat myself to an ice cream cone, sign up for a creative class I have dreamed of taking, etc. etc. etc.
This idea that we are still looking over our shoulders for an abstract authority figure to reprimand us or that someone else’s opinion overrides our thoughts, desires, hopes, positivity, preferences, or whatever it is we want still seems to get to the best of us.
So what if we do something different? What if you do something different? What if- just for today- you GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION?! What would it feel like to believe that your own justification for why you need a break is warranted, earned or even just something you can have with no justification at all? What if you tried on the idea that you are allowed to want. You are allowed to choose. And, you are allowed to give yourself permission without looking to your kids, your spouse or the world for approval?
Freedom is defined on dictionary.com as “the power to determine action without restraint”. You might want to sit down for this…you my dear friend, are FREE. You are free as a citizen of this country, you are free as a person of age, you are free as an empowered woman, you are free as a daughter of Christ. You have got freedom going for you on all fronts so permission is already granted!!!
Do that thing you have wanted to do forever, be confident in your thoughts and opinions, be who you want to be today- without restraint and with permission.
If you are hearing a “but…” in your head, investigate that. Where is it coming from? What messages are you believing that hold you back and restrain you from grabbing hold of the freedom that you possess? If you can identify it, take that thought captive. Then, move forward with a new truth that is backed by purpose, meaning and permission from yourself. Overcoming the “but” that stands in your way and embracing the freedom that is already yours will empower you in a way that will definitely leave you wanting more!
Write it on your mirror, look up verses that support it, meditate on it, believe it, proclaim it and own it. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION and see how good freedom feels! [pinit]
