[pinit]Have you ever watched a church healing service? Maybe you’ve seen something online that looked kinda freaky where a Pastor laid his hands on a person’s head and they just collapse in someone’s arms? I’ve seen this several times in different churches that I’ve either attended or watched online. And, I gotta tell you.. there was always a part of me that either didn’t believe it or maybe just didn’t understand it.
Until now.
A few days ago, I had the opportunity to witness something pretty amazing.
Normally, when my son is ready to take a nap or go to bed at night, he and I will sit down in the recliner in his room. He will calmly lay his head down on my chest and fall asleep. After he’s asleep, I will gently place him in his crib. However, this day went a little different. When we went in his room to take a nap, he started screaming and didn’t want to lay down. I thought it was kind of strange, but just kept trying to calm him down to no avail. I finally got him up and we went about our day, not thinking too much about it.
Well, then came bedtime. We went into his room, sat in the recliner and he started screaming and crying. I tried to calm him down and he just started flailing around! This was very uncharacteristic of him, so I just tried to keep my cool and prayed he would go to sleep. And, then as he’s screaming loud as can be, my husband walks in the room. Now, let me tell you… he never comes in the room when I’m putting Eli to bed. But, this time, he walked straight to us, put his hand on Eli’s back and said, Eli you don’t have to be scared. He started speaking God’s word over him and then turned around and walked out. Do you want to know what happened?!
AS SOON AS my husband laid his hand on Eli’s back, he literally fell into my arms. Seriously.. Eli immediately stopped screaming, crying, flailing his arms around and instantly fell asleep!!! I had never witnessed anything like that. And, then all of those healing services flashed through my mind. I could never understand why those people would often just fall into someone’s arms after they received their healing. But, I indeed had just witnessed my son doing the exact same thing. So, after a couple minutes, I laid Eli in his crib and walked out of the room. I then asked my husband.. “What just happened?!” He proceeded to tell me that as Eli was screaming, God spoke to him and told him that Eli was scared of something. He said God told him to go in there and tell him he doesn’t need to be scared. So, that’s what he did. I was floored! And, overjoyed! I had just witnessed what Jesus spoke about in Mark 16:17, where he gave the Great Commission. And, His last sentence said.. “They will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Now, my son was not sick, per se, but there was obviously something pretty serious upsetting him. And, the hands of my husband, backed with the Sword of the Spirit, made him well.
I believe God was challenging me to stop questioning and start believing. And, I challenge you to do the same thing today. Maybe you’re suffering from a long time ailment. Perhaps you’ve even been diagnosed with what some Doctors refer to as, an incurable disease. Well, I’m hear to tell you.. we serve a God who’s in the business of Healing. It is never a question whether or not God wants you to be healed. His will is ALWAYS for you to be made well. In Isaiah 53:5, it clearly says that, “… by his wounds we are healed.” (NIV) What was being said here? This was a prophetic message, speaking of the coming Messiah. And, as we know today. Jesus did come. And, He suffered and died for our sins. And, it is “by Jesus’ stripes we are healed“. (Isaiah 53:5 KJV)
Still not convinced? Head on over to John 10:10, where it says.. Jesus was crucified so that we “may have life and have it more abundantly”. In 3 John 1:2, it says.. “ Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (KJV) If you ask me, there is no question about it. God wants us to prosper and be in health.. in this life. Not just in heaven. We are called to have victory in every area of our life, here on Earth.
So, if you or someone you know needs healing today, I encourage you to do as James 5:14 directs.. “Is any one of your sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And, the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well..” (NIV)
