~HOW TO BUILD YOUR SALES BUSINESS WITHOUT BEING A PEST~
Before I delve right in, let me make a confession. I have been guilty of what we are talking about today, more times than I’d like to admit. However, I never knew how it made people feel until others did it to me. What am I talking about?
How many times have you gotten a request to “like a page” or been invited to an online sales party? Or, maybe an in-house sales party. How many times have you gotten a group message or maybe it was a message only to you, but it was obvious that it was a canned and copy and pasted sales promotion? And, the whole point of the message was a self promotion of the sender.
Do you respond to these sales tactics? Probably not. In fact, you may even be annoyed if you have been inundated with them lately. We all crave real connections with people. And, when we don’t hear from somebody in years and then all of a sudden, they are inviting us to something, the question is why.
Does this person really care about me? Do they really want ME to come to their party, because they like me, miss me, want to get to know me better? Do they really want ME to like their page because they think I would be really interested in it or could really benefit from it?
Or are they just “going through the numbers”?
Well here’s the truth. I’ve gone through the numbers. Time and time again. And, it did not produce the fruit (sales) that I was looking for. Why?
People don’t want to feel like they are “just a number”. They don’t want to be sold into anything. They want to feel Special. Important. Appreciated. And, people want to know they can trust you. With all the scams out there, people are cautious and have their guards up… especially where any type of sales is concerned.
So, if you are trying to grow a business by inundating your “friend list” with product posts and promotions. Know this won’t produce the results you are looking for.
A better way to go about things is by connecting. Learn how to build genuine friendships. Take the time to get to know people. Open the book of your life and share yourself with others. Be authentic.
And, remember…People will buy your product or partner in business with you if they feel that their life will be better because of it. Period. End of story. 😉
So, turn the gaze away from your sales goals and your agenda. And, instead focus on being a blessing to those around you. Ask yourself.. Who can I give to today? Who can I serve? The answers may surprise you. And, this will not only make you a better business owner, it will make you more likable and a better friend.
People will begin to change their opinion of you. They will no longer avoid you at work or block you on Facebook, because all you do is push your products. Instead they will let their guards down and open themselves up to what you have to offer. But, when they do… please, please, please play it cool. Make them chase you. Remember.. you have the goods. And, they need what you have. Not vice versa.
