Hello Favored Friends! My oh my how I’ve missed you all! I’ve been away on vacation and can’t believe how long it has been since I posted.. sheesh! I originally thought that I would have a ton of extra time to blog about our last two Disney Resorts while in New Jersey. But, golly I was wrong.. we were on the go, go, go the whole time! And, I didn’t even intend to blog about any adventures in NJ, so I left my fancy camera at home.
But, then I went to Steel Pier and had so much fun, that I couldn’t help but share!! 🙂 Steel Pier has actually been in my husband’s family for about 25 years. His Uncle Anthony, (who I now get to claim too! ;)) is one of the owners. (See picture below) But, this was actually my first time visiting NJ, so I never had the opportunity to experience Steel Pier until now. So, let me tell you a little bit more, because it is quite fascinating!
Steel Pier is a 1,000-foot-long amusement pier that extends over the Atlantic Ocean, located in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is located across The Boardwalk from Trump Taj Mahal. It opened on June 18, 1898! According to Wikipedia, it was one of the most popular entertainment venues in the United States for the first seven decades of the twentieth century, with concerts, exhibits, and an amusement park. It billed itself as the “Showplace of the Nation.”
Donald Trump actually owned Steel Pier for two decades until 2011, when it was sold to Uncle Anthony and his Partners. However, they had leased the Pier from Trump and operated the amusement park for twenty years before that. Today Steel Pier boasts of more than 25 extreme rides, an amusement arcade filled and some pretty amazing food that will make anyone forget about their diet while on vacation!
And, having Eli with us, I appreciated that the Pier has a family friendly environment. There were rides for the kiddos, such as the Airplane Plane ride below, the Double Decker Carousel and the Ferris Wheel. And, there were also extreme rides for the crazies in the family, such as the Slingshot, which shoots you in air at more than 100 miles per hour! I actually considered jumping on the Slingshot after watching how much fun a couple girls were having on it, but then I saw the Helicopter and it was calling my name! And, I must tell you, it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! When you visit Steel Pier, put this on your “must do” list!
All in all, I give Steel Pier two thumbs up!! Many kudos to Uncle Anthony and his Partners for all their continued hard work in restoring the Pier to its former glory and making it once again, “The Showplace of the Nation”!
Enjoy the pictures below, but know they were taken “on the fly” with my iPhone. So, they definitely don’t do the Pier justice. 😉
