Are you a book lover? I am! And, if you’re anything like me, you just loooove holding a good book in your hand and highlighting special excerpts just makes your heart happy! Who would ever want an e-book, right?
Well…. I must admit that my thinking has shifted over the last year.
Up until about June of last year, I drug my feet in jumping on the e-book bandwagon. In fact, I may very well have downright protested against it. 😉
It was not until I got into blogging where I realized the power and versatility of e-Books when I purchased Building a Framework. And, wow! Did it open my eyes! Not only to the amazing information that has helped me start, maintain and grow my blog. But, to the amazing benefits of purchasing an e-Book. You see, I thought an e-book was simply just an intangible version of a physical book. Boy was I wrong!
Let me share with you the Top 5 reasons to purchase an e-Book:
- The “Search” function. Because an e-book is in PDF format, you have a “search bar” for for the book. This is especially useful for a “how-to” book. You may have read the book once, but it was packed full of so much great content, that you couldn’t possibly remember it all.
But, you may remember that the author discussed a certain topic and you now need to implement the step-by-step procedure. Instead of flipping through a couple hundred pages, you can simply type the keyword into the search bar, and Voila!
Your results are handed to you on a silver platter! Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit about the platter. 😉 But, the information you were needing is right at your fingertips! This alone is a huge time saver and is worth the purchase of an e-book.
- Live Links. Because you have the option of reading an e-Book on your computer or mobile device, you will have live links to click on.
In other words, if the author recommends a certain book to read, you can simply click the link and pop on over to Amazon and purchase it within in minutes! Soooo much better than trying to remember the book or writing the name of the book down on a scrap piece of paper that you eventually lose. And, then remembering the book recommendation months later, only to realize you don’t recall the exact name. Yeah I know… I’ve done that several times.
Or perhaps, it’s not a book that the author recommends, but another resource such as a course to take or a freebie offered from another source. When you have an e-Book, you can simply save the link for another time and you won’t miss out on any goodness!
- Screen shots. In an e-book, the author can provide screen shots to give the reader a visual example of the topic discussed. Again this is especially helpful if you are learning a new industry, like blogging and need someone to hold your hand every step of the way. That is exactly what an author can do for you, by offering you screenshots of the process and then explaining the steps.
- Colors and Pictures. Ok, this may not be at the top of the list, but it sure deserves some praise. With an e-Book come vibrancy and color that simply cannot come with a physical book. But, an author of an e-Book can add their flare and it makes for a very entertaining reading experience!
- Always available. Simply put, your e-book will always be available on any mobile device, whether it’s through iBooks or through the Free Kindle app. This is awesome, because although you may forget to bring your book with you when you run out of the door, I guarantee you will not forget your phone! So, with an e-Book, you can now take advantage of those few unproductive moments, whether at a stop light or standing in line at a store.
