Have you ever been in a spot in life, where you know something to be true, but then an event happens to reinforce the truth? That happened to me the other day.
You see, I know full and well that when we pray, it is so important for our words to back up our prayers. In other words, we must “Pray and Say”. What most people do is “Pray and then still complain about the situation, like they never even prayed.” Ouch! That was harsh, I know.
But, before you get mad at me, let me share with you a story and a little background information.
My husband and I are on two fairly different schedules. They vary about 4 hours in either direction. So, he is always up waaaay later than I am. That means, he is very frequently keeping me up past my own designated bedtime. Zzzzzzz
And, one evening about a week ago was no exception. I was getting ready to go night- night when I walked into his office to let him know. He proceeded to ask my help with a dozen business related items. (Okay, maybe a little exaggeration.) But, there were a few things he wanted my help with right then.
Now, before I share the rest of the story, please keep in mind, I set a bedtime so that I may get up early in the morning to work on my blog and e-book. Also, when I finally go to bed, I am tired! In other words, I will most definitely be asleep within 60 seconds. So, to ask me for help on something that is going to keep me up later tends to bring about frustration.
Sooooo, this particular night, I became extremely frustrated. And, I blurted out.. “Just forget it, I don’t need to get up early in the morning. I don’t need to work on my book or blog!” (Let the truth be known that I REALLY WANT to work on my book and blog in the mornings.) But, I said this to try and get my point across that I need to go to bed! Either way, it was the wrong way to react and definitely the wrong thing to say.
Fast forward to the next morning. I get up early, although not as early as I had hoped. I proceed to start my morning with reading and prayer. And, then just as I’m closing my Bible and about to get my computer, I hear Eli stirring in his crib.
NOOOOOOOO!!!! I start praying… Dear God, please let Eli go back to sleep for a little while longer! I keep praying. And, it becomes very apparent that Eli is not going back to sleep.
At that point, I must confess that I got a little upset with God. I didn’t understand. I knew He could easily have Eli drift back to sleep for another hour while I get a little work done.
God obviously knew I was a little perturbed. Because, all of a sudden, in my spirit, I hear Him saying… “Remember what you said last night? You said you didn’t need to get any work done this morning. I can’t override the words that you spoke.”
What?! No way! Ugh!!! I KNEW what I heard was true. And, it was MY fault that I wasn’t going to get any work done that morning.
This may be news for you, but God gave us creative power. There is POWER in our words. How do you think God created the world? By His words. He said, “Let there be light” and light was. Or you will hear it translated, “Light be!”.
God has passed this same creative power down to us. Although for some reason, the majority of the population does not realize it. Perhaps we should read God’s word more? (Myself included!)
Anyway, I learned my lesson! And, now I challenge you to begin listening to yourself. And, ask yourself… Are there any unpleasant situations in your life that perhaps you created?
If you come up with anything, please share your story below! And, let’s hold each other accountable in watching our words! 😉
Till next time… Be blessed! And, be a blessing!
